Once In a Lifetime...

Sometimes I am more blessed than I think I probably deserve. Though the game was sold out, there I was in the presence of the greatest players of the Edmonton Oilers dynasty years. As I told my co-workers the next day, the memories shared that night brought a tear to my eye, even though I was only 6-years-old by 1990. And despite all the complaining sportscasters are known to do about the length of these ceremonies, I would have happily stood another hour just to see, hear and experience more of that night. You can't put a price on a feeling and watching the retirement of Mark Messier's #11 was well-worth the time I took off from essay writing that evening.

Experiences like these remind me to be thankful. It's so easy to spend our time thinking of all the things we don't have, that we often forget to appreciate the magic in each moment.
