Shut Up Jim Kelley

As I lack the time to properly address a recent column I read on Sportsnet.ca, this post remains only to remind me to be angry and blog about it next week.

Feel free to visit the column and comment anyway and stay tuned for my scarcasm next week: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/columnist.jsp?content=20070305_154109_6208

Although I have many more thoughts on the issue, here are a few preliminary ones that I can't resist adding:
  • If that's sarcasm Mr. Kelley (and I sincerely hope it is), you need to be a little less subtle. Some of us might misconstrue your intended meaning, resulting in a mass of angry protesters congregating outside your Sportsnet office. (Ok, maybe not, but wouldn't that be fun?)
  • Dirty hits are not in the same category as fighting. Wendel Clark, to name just one of many, knew how to fight and throw a clean hit. Bring on the fights, leave the career-ending, I'm-a-little-boy-having-a-temper-tantrum-and-I-can't-control-my-actions hits to the head out of it.
  • Does someone have to die before the NHL and NHLPA do something to stop it? Are we going to be watching Sid the Kid's funeral before they start calling this stuff and handing down meaningful consequences to these I'm-a-hockey-player-I-can-do-whatever-I-want, fourth-line bruisers?
