My Thoughts on Some of the News...

- I agree that renaming Ottawa streets after former prime ministers is a great idea. I'm a history buff and I would just love to wander down Wilfrid Laurier Way. I must add though, this is not an uncommon or unthought of concept. Who is Macdonald-Cartier Way named after if not the first prime minister and his Quebec counterpart? (That's the way they did it back then...you always had to have a strong Quebec lieutenant). What about the airports? (Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International, Toronto Pearson International, Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International).

- Provincial funding for a crack pipe harm reduction program does not make Ottawa Mayor Larry O'Brien angry because the province is honing in on his turf. I'm guessing he doesn't like it because he doesn't want that kind of program here. Just an observation.

- I'm disgusted: cats being placed in the microwave and the US potentially using "waterboarding" on prisoners (pouring water over the covered mouth of a suspect creating the sensation of drowning) makes me want to be sick. So much more to be said, and yet I can't bring myself to discuss it any further.

- Georges St-Pierre was in Ottawa holding a clinic over the weekend. Who knew?

- The US FDA says cloned food is ok. Because of public outcry on the issue, I wonder if it will be separate from other food in the meat section? How do we know there aren't any long term detrimental effects? I need to know more about this...

- Oscar Pistorius uses state-of-the-art artificial legs to compete against able-bodied runners. He can compete at their level, but will not be allowed to do so because it gives him an unfair advantage. I'm not so sure it does. Shouldn't we be celebrating the fact he can compete at such a high level despite his disability? I guess they must have their reasons...

- The stories from Bathurst are harder everyday. I can't even imagine what it must feel like to have known one of those boys (or the teacher) or to be a part of that community. My prayers are with them.
